Large fragment of an antique Caucasian Kazak kilim, estimated to be more than 100 years old. The fragment is handwoven in 100% wool and features a bold, graphic composition with large geometric medallions filled with stylised ram’s-horn motifs—a traditional symbol associated with strength, protection and vitality.
Natural variations in the weaving, the asymmetrical composition and the surviving portions of the original kilim give the fragment a strong and authentic character. Measuring approximately 110 × 190 cm, this is an unusually large and highly decorative fragment that works particularly well as wall art.
The kilim has recently been washed and carefully mounted on light-coloured linen, leaving its irregular shape and original edges visible. The mounting supports and stabilises the historic textile while transforming it into a striking decorative piece.
A sleeve for a mounting rod has been sewn into the back. Overall dimensions including linen: approximately 110 × 190 cm.
A unique example of Caucasian textile art in which age, craftsmanship and irregularity are essential parts of its beauty and character. Offered as a historic kilim fragment rather than a complete rug.
