Caucasian Azerbijani Vintage Dragon, 156 x 228 cm

A striking vintage Azerbaijani Caucasian Dragon rug featuring the bold, graphic power that makes this design one of the most iconic in the Caucasus weaving tradition.  The rug is knotted in wool on a cotton warp and has been newly washed.

The dramatic red field is alive with stylised dragon motifs, angular palmettes, mythical animals and strong geometric forms, arranged in a dynamic yet balanced composition. Deep forest greens, ivory, indigo, sky blue and warm ochre tones create a vivid contrast against the saturated red ground. The design has movement and energy — yet remains harmonious and architectural. The wide ivory border frames the composition beautifully, with classic Caucasian tribal motifs that enhance the rug’s bold character.

 It carries a lovely vintage patina that adds depth and authenticity, but there is no fading — the colours remain strong and vibrant.
